Projects Manager

Chris Mitchell

I have supported Halifax RLFC/Blue Sox/Panthers for over 40 years and have been employed by the Foundation for over 15 years in various roles, including Service Area Co-ordinator, Community Coach and finally Projects Manager.

I started playing RL aged 12 for Park Amateurs, joined Ovenden aged 14, then played for the Halifax Colts team at Thrum Hall, before joining Greetland Allrounders at 19 years of age. I moved to live away and on my return to Halifax, joined the newly formed Sowerby Bridge Robins, where I scored the 1st ever try on their new pitch above Tuel Lane. Following a spell playing RU for Old Rishworthian in Copley, I retired aged 38.

I am a qualified referee and have enjoyed over 10 years refereeing school’s rugby, both junior and open age community rugby as well as Masters rugby.

I had the pleasure of representing Great Britain in their first Masters international against Australia in 2008 playing at Full Back allowing me the honour of the prestigious heritage number 1.

I have also had the honour or being selected to referee a Masters test match between Great Britain v Australia.
