Winter Healthy Holidays

Another great week of Winter Healthy Holidays at the Shay Stadium last week.
Massive thanks to the Calderdale Council Community Foundation for Calderdale for allowing us to continue what is a fantastic opportunity for both families and also to our staff and volunteers.
A big thank you to the staff at the Victoria Theatre in Halifax who looked after us on our visit to their pantomime.
Another thank you to the Difference Group at the Shay who provided lovely meals each day as part of the programme,
We provided 190 meals throughout the week including meals taken home by the children. Boxed meals were also included for all children to take home and cook for themselves and their families.
Activities we delivered included football, rugby, dodgeball, table tennis, boccia, petanque, 10 pin bowling and well as free time with art and crafts, lego and team building activity. Prize bingo with the kids were a hit too. Another highlight was a British Sign language session that our kids really enjoyed and engaged in.
We are already looking forward to further HAF activity throughout 2024. Please watch our social media platforms for more information.

We will target on free school meals so they will not go without a hot meal when the school is closed for half term.

We are asking all our supporters to donate their blue token into our section of the voting scheme in all Tesco stores throughout Calderdale with the winner receiving £1,500, second place getting £1,000 and third getting £500.

Halifax & District heritage project update

Following the successful application for funding earlier in the year from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for ‘The History of Halifax & District Amateur Rugby League’, the Calderdale Community Coaching Trust are pleased to announce the appointments of Paul Field and Andrew Hardcastle as Heritage Officers to develop and deliver the project.

Andrew Harcastle, a retired schoolteacher and one-time Greetland All Rounders player, has been the official historian of Halifax RLFC for fifty years, and has amassed considerable information on the amateur game as well during that period.….

Paul Field has been part of amateur Rugby League in Halifax for over 30 years as a player, coach and administrator with the former Calder Valley club. Since retiring from open age Rugby League at the age of 50, Paul took up playing Masters RL with Siddal Masters and has played international Masters in eight countries. Until January 2023, Paul was a Treasurer and Referee Lead for Masters RL. Paul, who is retired from his career as an International Sales Manager, is keen to start the project.

“I am thrilled to be appointed to the role and in the coming months I am looking forward to many fascinating conversations about amateur Rugby League clubs, past and present. The project with its online museum will be a lasting example of the positive work the Calderdale Community Coaching Trust does in the community”.

Plans are being made for a project launch event. Look out for announcements on the CCCT website, http://www.calderdalecommuntycoachingtrust.co.uk and on our social media platforms.

If you have interesting stories to share about amateur Rugby League in the Halifax area you will be most welcome.
