Winter HAF @ The Shay Stadium

In the week before Christmas, we were again awarded funding from the Community Foundation for Calderdale & Calderdale Council to deliver our Healthy Holidays sports camp at the Shay Stadium.

We ran our sessions on 23, 24th, 30 & 31st December with 113 children attending.

We did such activities as football, rugby skills, dodgeball, Kwik Cricket, and obstacle course, stand up bingo, lego workshops and Christmas card making.

We also had West Yorkshire police come with their Caving activity which the children (and staff) enjoyed.

The children were provided with meals such as Sausage, wedges and veg, A roast chicken dinner, pasta bolognaise as well as a packed lunch with deserts including jelly, ice cream, melon and sponge and custard.

The group were provided with bottles water by ASDA, and their community champion, Emma. Thanks again for their donation.

We also took the group to the Pantomime at the Victoria, which went down well and special mention to the team in the box office who looked after us on the day.

Massive thanks to all the children who attended and to the parents of the children allowing their siblins to attend our camp.

We received the following feedback from a couple of families;-

Finlay is generally quite a shy child and he was greeted to a friendly welcome and made to feel comfortable straight away. After the first day he came home absolutely buzzing and was telling me about all the fun activities. The second day he loved the Peter Pan panto and came home with lots of goodies. It is fantastic this is put on for the children to enjoy and will look out for future events.

My daughters, Maddie Evie and Harleigh attended on the 31st and thoroughly enjoyed the pantomime , they have said staff were friendly , they made friends , and they really enjoyed the cooking boxes they brought home – they made the curry yesterday and all really enjoyed it – thank you so much for the fantastic experience for them , not only did they get to see the pantomime ( I couldn’t afford this year as we have 8 children and the cost was really high unfortunately) they met new people and enjoyed a new experience together , thanks so much to you and all your staff , and a big thank you from the girls.

Both gratefully received which were passed onto the funders.

At this moment in time, we have no word on whether we will secure funding for 2025 but please watch our social media platforms for the very latest news.
